I have to say that I am pretty lucky to live in a city where I have access to go hiking so close to me. Though I may not live straight on the mountain, I am only 10 minutes away from my favorite trail. Phoenix is one of the few cities that have access to hiking in the city. If you ask me, that sounds pretty legit. Not only do you get to get the perfect view of two cities, you also get to experience a breath taking sunset and meet people who share the same passion for hiking as you.
Yes, I am a sweaty out of breath mess along the way, but nothing feels better than reaching the top of the mountain. To know you climbed the mountains and made it to the top. I even threw my hands up in victory when reaching the top. Yes, I am the girl who does that. 🙂 If you get there at the right time in the morning, you get to see the sunrise over another set of mountains, and if you get there at the right time at night, you get to see the sky light up with different shades of blues, purples, pinks, oranges, and yellows. BLISS.
On the trail, you get to meet different people. You get to hear different stories. You get to know strangers on a level where you feel as if you have known them your whole life. I know that may sound weird, but once you experience it, you’ll get what I mean. The good vibes sent from hikers going up and down just give me this big surge of motivation. It makes me smile every time someone tells me “Happy trails.”
In the Summer, temperatures rise up into the 100s and the trail does become a challenge. I faced this yesterday. It was hard, I was a sweaty mess, I was out of breath, but once I reached the top, I felt invincible. I chose to go on another path for a change. I did want to stop about half way through, but my friend and the other hikers cheered me on. I’m glad they did, because I felt happy beyond words once I reached the top.
If you ever get the chance to come to Arizona, I highly recommend hiking the trails in Phoenix. It may get tough, but quite honestly, reaching the top is one of the most rewarding feelings.
I plan on going hiking a lot this Summer with friends. I find it much more intimate and a time where I can really just talk to them and get close to them.
One of my goals in life is to climb the Hollywood sign mountain. That will be something to remember.
