We’ve Got the Power in our Hands

Facebook. Twitter. Pinterest. Instagram. Tumblr. Youtube.

Those are some of the names of the largest social media websites on the internet. There are millions of people that long on or go to these websites every single day. They hold the attention of both past and present generations. People are on their iPhones, iPads, iPods, Androids, tablets, etc. constantly liking, commenting, and sharing content. It’s pretty hard to go outside into the public and not see someone on their phone.

These websites hold influence to many actions and opinions, especially to the newest generation today. Pretty much every time I go out and about, I see an electronic in a child’s hand. I’ve heard, and seen, children talking about their profiles. They use derogatory terms like “thots” and other profanity, making judgments about themselves (like saying that they’re “soooo fat”), and especially judgments of other people for being different or not keeping up with what’s “cool.”

In my opinion, social media is a VERY powerful thing. It’s where people connect, learn new things or learn about what’s going on in the world, and open up their horizons to new ideas. BUT it also has the power of persuasion. Companies send out messages on what beauty “truly” is or what people need to do/buy to be accepted or “cool.” They have the power, on social media, to distort images of what people “need” just so they can get a quick buck.

I admit, I am constantly checking social media, and all throughout my scrolling, I’ve seen negativity on each of the websites listed above in some shape or form. People degrading other people for being different or not reaching their standards. As much as some people don’t want to believe it, words are a powerful thing. Beauty has been distorted by words and images. (You know what they say, “a picture is worth a thousand words”). What’s essentially “cool” has been altered by words over the years. What’s “wrong” has been distorted by words. Hate has been promoted. Envy has been promoted. Unrealistic expectations have been promoted.

In this situation, I don’t believe the phrase, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me,” holds true here. I’ve fallen victim to, along with other people, judgment, envy, and hatred.

Social media has so much power, and in all honesty, it scares me. It’s worries me for the generation now and for future generations to come. Technology is everywhere and it is constantly expanding every day. Its intention was for good, but there has been so much negativity that has grown over the years on it. Yes, I agree whole heartedly that people have the right to speak their minds. I respect that people have their own views, but I think that people should spread more positvity rather than negativity.

Thinking Out Loud ; 4/9/15

Good morning/afternoon/evening! ❤

Thinking-Out-Loud

Whew, you guys! I’m excited to once again join the Thinking Out Loud link up over on Amanda‘s page! It’s been quite some time since I last posted my thoughts, and in all honesty, I missed it. I missed typing out my sparatic thoughts and reading what others said/thought. I’ve learned to come that other people think how I do about things, and I think it is a fantastic way to form friendships! I hope to spark some new friendships as time goes on. I’d love to be all of your friends! 😀 Now, onward to the thoughts!

1. I saw the absolute CUTEST video two nights ago. It’s about a baby elephant meeting their mother for the first time in years. The baby was taken years earlier for exhibition. Their reunion made my heart melt. Seriously, my eyes were tearing up as I was watching it. All my parents could hear me say was “My heart! Oh my goodness.. SO PRECIOUS.” You NEED to watch this video. It is a guaranteed way to make your day. 🙂

2. I am SO close to getting my first car! I am hoping to get it by the beginning of May, because let’s face it.. I simply cannot ride my bike to work and other places in the Arizona heat. Riding in 115 degree heat? No thank you.

3. I’m excited to celebrate the six month anniversary of my relationship with my boyfriend! I don’t know exactly what we are going to do, but regardless I’m excited. These six months have flown by, and he has been making me the happiest girl in the world! I could go on and on and on with all of the lovey-doveyness, but I’ll save that for a later post. 😉

4. I am really liking my darker hair color after about 2 months. It took some time to get used too, but I actually think it suits me better than blonde!

5. Do you ever get those really sudden urges to do so much with your life and complete so much? Well, that’s me whenever I am working. I don’t know what it is about cleaning, but it sure gives me so much motivation. I guess it’s because I am doing something productive, but I get my best ideas then. Does this happen with anyone else?!

6. I am addicted to the app Tsum Tsum. It’s seriously the cutest thing ever. If you download, I warn you that it can be addicting. 😉

7. I’m really excited that I get to go to the Lana Del Rey concert in about a month! It’s on May 14th, and I keep telling my friend how epic it is going to be!

8. I have been having the urge to go to California lately. Specifically the beach and Disneyland. I miss Disneyland, and I would love to lay out on the sand next to the beach. I am hoping to take a mini vacation to CA when I get a car, because I would need to pick it up there. I will make it a priority to go to the beach.. maybe even a pier. Gahh, SO excited thinking about it. 😀

9. Currently obsessed with these two songs:

10. I hope that you are having an amazing day! ❤

I’m excited that I am getting into more of a routine with blogging again! The most frequent posts that I usually always kept going was What I Ate Wednesdays. What can I say? Food is my passion. 😉 I’ve taken the route of filming my food instead of taking pictures. I do want to work on my photography skills, but I am saving that for inanimate objects, scenery, and people. I really want to work on filming and editing videos, so watch out for more videos coming your way! I have quite a few ideas in mind already that I am excited about! Any whoooo, this post is suppose to be about food, so press play and enjoy the eats. 🙂

Breakfast: Whole wheat toast topped with strawberry cream cheese, an egg, ham, green beans, and coffee. (Surprise surprise. ;))

Smoothie: Frozen blueberries, spinach, ice, and almond milk. (I ran out of banana! Sad day..)

Lunch: Greek yogurt + apple slices + peanut butter, ham, grapes, and my smoothie.

Dinner: Green chile pork enchiladas!

No dessert. 😮

Let’s Talk: Coconut Oil

Good morning/afternoon/evening! ❤

The newest trend I’ve been seeing all over Instagram lately has been coconut oil. Okay, let’s be real here.. coconut oil has been a thing for a while now, and I’m just now discussing the topic. I saw it and thought, “Oh, it’s another tool used for cooking and for beauty regimens.” Little did I realize how fantastic it is for you! After doing some research and learning the science behind all of its wonderful benefits, I was grateful that I bought a jar of coconut oil a few weeks earlier. My initial intention for buying it was for my hair, but after learning why it is such a super food, I was pretty blown away.

????????????????????????????????????????

Let’s first go into why coconut oil is considered a super food. First off, 90% of coconut oil is saturated fatty acids. It is made up of medium chain triglycerides that enable the fat to go straight to the liver from the digestive tract. In effect, it is a quick source of energy, a.k.a. made with ketone bodies. (Fun Fact: Ketone bodies reduces the risk of seizures by helping blood concentration.) The medium chain triglycerides have more energy than longer chains of fats. That means their is 5% more energy given in 24 hours. That energy helps aid in long term weight loss.

Of the 90% saturated fatty acids, 50% of those fatty acids are 12-carbon Lauric Acids. When they are enzymatically digested, it turns into a monoglyceride called monolaurin. Monolaurin kills bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

Coconut oil has lauric acid, capric acid, and caprylic acid. That means that coconut oil is antimicrobial, an antioxidant, anti-fungal, antibacterial, and has soothing qualities. These acids help with kidney problems, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV, and cancer. Coconut oil is also filled with polyunsaturated fatty acids, monosaturated fatty acids, poly-phenols, vitamin E, vitamin K, and iron. Pretty awesome internal benefits, right?! Well, it only gets better with these other benefits…

  • Reduces hunger (like most fats do.)
  • The saturated fats raise HDL cholesterol (the good kind.)
  • Improves dry skin.
  • Helps damaged/dry hair.
  • Blocks out 20% of the sun’s ultraviolent rays.
  • Used for oil pulling (which is now becoming more popular.)
  • The ketone bodies supply energy to the brain.
  • Relieves stress.
  • Boosts the immune system.
  • Aids digestion
  • Regulates the metabolism

Can you say “Heck yeah!” to coconut oil after reading all of that?! I sure can! I was hesitant at first when using it with cooking and eating, but I have to say it’s delicious. I’m excited to see what good it does for my body both internally and externally! I have also been using it on my lips, because the heat has been drying them out. I hope you learned something new and give coconut oil a chance! 🙂

Goal Talk for April 2015

Good morning/afternoon/evening!

At the beginning of this year, I made a promise to myself that I would set goals each month and do my very best to complete them all. I set multiple little goals to do, and those add up to the major goals that I have. It may seem like a lot, but they are little tweaks I can make to my life every day. I am thinking of doing goal posts at the beginning of each month and track my progress along the way! I already know that April is going to be an exciting month for me, so I set goals that I know I will more than likely achieve! I have a few things in the works, so some of these things will make sense later on. 🙂

Goals for April 2015:

1. Practice working on handstands! (I can do headstands, but I have been really hesitant on moving up to handstands.)

2. Be more consistent with my blogging. (My spark has come back, and I have quite a few projects in the works. :))

3. Get my license.

4. Save up my money and hopefully buy a car! (Super excited for this!)

5. Incorporate more HIITs into my workouts.

6. Drink more smoothies. (I started having a smoothie a day for the past week, and I’ve been loving it! Yummm.)

7. Reduce my coffee drinking down to one cup a day. (It’s been reaching up to four cups a day. :o)

8. Start drinking green tea again.

9. Don’t be so nervous to try out new exercises.

10. Stretch after every workout. (VERY important for your health.)
