February Ipsy & BoxyCharm Review

Good morning/afternoon/evening! ❤

Over the course of the past few months, my love for beauty products have grown exponentially. For years I have watched probably over 1000 make-up tutorials, and my biggest inspiration has always been Michelle Phan. Seeing her grown as both a YouTuber and business women, it has given me that boost to finally venture on beyond mascara and eye liner to a full range of beauty products. I love expressing myself with different looks with different color pallets every day! Beauty products are something I invest in, because it is a major thing that makes me happy.

A few months ago, I learned that I could get boxes each month with beauty products to try out, and eventually buy if I like them that much! I get monthly boxes from Ipsy and BoxyCharm. For Ipsy, it costs $10/month for 4-5 travel/sample size products that match you answers on a survey that you take upon joining as a member. These products can be up to over $50. As for BoxyCharm, you receive 5-6 full size products for $21/month. They are not based on a survey, but the total of all of the products are up to over $100 in value.

I have tested out all of these products, and I want to share my experience and opinion of all them with you!

  1. Jessica Liebeskind Vintage lip gloss
    1. The color is beautiful on this product. Although I was not a big fan of the brush to apply the lip gloss, it did give me a sheen that could not be outmatched. It in a color I would put over a pink lipstick, because it does look a bit tacky on plain lips.IMG_20160218_141712
  2. Margaret Dabbs London nail filer
    1. I didn’t understand what the product was at first until I looked it up. I found that there are fine crystals that make up the file for a clean cut file. The file did not apply much force, and it did its job. I was very happy with the end result. My nails turned out smooth and had no sharp edges.IMG_20160218_141729
  3. Trust Fund Beauty nail polish in “I’m Kind of a Big Deal”
    1. When it comes to nail polish, I have a hard time finding a polish that that covers the area with thick coats. This nail polish came out thick, but not in a bad way. It provided a full covered, and there were no streak marks when applying an over coat. Plus, the color is super cute! 😀IMG_20160218_141856
  4. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil
    1. I’m still iffy about this product. Although it acts as a good primer, it leaves my hands feeling oily for a few washes. I like to stick to a lotiony primer, because it feels like it applies more coverage. The oil is lightweight, and it does a good job, but I can’t really get past the oiliness.
  5. Naked Cosmetics Mica Pigment
    1. I typically stick to tightly compacted pallet eye shadows, because they lack fallout, but this pigment was beautiful when blended with other eye shadows. As you could guess, this eye shadow is very pigmented. I thought it would be a but much with my fair skin, but it complimented both my blue eyes and red hair. There is a shimmer to it, and the sunlight really captures that. I would highly recommend it!

  1. Spongelle You Have My Heart on a String
    1. This body brush is great at exfoliating the skin! My skin felt a whole lot softer after using it the first time. The downside to it is the smell when it gets wet. It has a similar smell to Nair, and that smell makes me sick. I can get past that, because it is a great exfoliater, and my conditioner can out-smell it any day! 😉IMG_20160218_075355
  2. Beauty for Real Blush – Glow Stick
    1. My skin is very fair, so both the blush and illuminator showed up very clearly on my cheeks. The blush gave my cheeks a subtle natural rosy look (which I adore), and the illuminator (paired with my BH Cosmestics Carli Bybel highlighter) gave my face a dewy finish. I am all about that glow! 😀IMG_20160218_142412
  3. Shray Ms. Amazing Facial Mask
    1. The mask was very cold upon putting it on my face, and when I rubbed it in. It was a but painful at first (I’m a baby with the cold), but it started to feel very soothing once I let it settle. After taking off the mask, it left behind a thicker moisture to rub in. I noticed that my face felt softer and cleaner than usual in the morning!IMG_20160218_142241
  4. Ofra Banana Powder Gadget
    1. I used this powder as a powder foundation instead of an eye shadow. It complimented my foundation and helped oxidize to a more natural shade. The powder actually helped tone down the redness in my face, and there was no oiliness or smearing at the end of the day.IMG_20160218_142259
  5. Freeze 24/7 Anti-Aging Eye Serum
    1. I’ve only used the serum for the past few days, and I haven’t noticed that much of a difference. My bags haven’t been so badly lately, so I hope that it is helping with that. I don’t have any wrinkles or crows feet from using make-up, but I hope that this serum will help to keep it that way!IMG_20160218_141319
  6. RealTree for Her
    1. I don’t wear perfume that often, but I do enjoy putting it on before school! It has a sweetier more flowery smell. It is a more intense smell after two sprits, but it is lovely. I would recommend it to perfume enthusiests. 🙂

Overall, I was impressed with all of the products. They had their pros and cons, but I cannot wait to see what I receive next month to review!

Thinking Out Loud ; 4/3

*Happy dance. Happy dance.*

Cue the song “Happy” and let’s get this post going. You wanna know why? Because it’s Thursday and…

Let’s all give a huge thank you to the beautiful Amanda for hosting. ❤

1. After finishing both That 70s Show and Drop Dead Diva, I was stuck on what to watch. Being my usual self, I was watching Youtube videos of some of the people I subscribe to. I came across a March Must-Haves video that mentioned the show Bates Motel. I was a bit iffy about it, but after watching it episode after episode, I have come to like it. It is a bit creepy.. and weird.. but it’s interesting. I found it pretty cool that the characters were originally from Arizona.. and I live in Arizona. I know, I’m weird.

2. You never really realize how much stuff you have until you have to pack it all up. Even though I moved less than a year ago, I have somehow accumulated quite a bit of new items in the process of being here. Does that happen with anyone else? I have thrown out a majority of the useless items and packed my bags up with items, books, movies, and clothing that I will donate to Goodwill. One things for sure, when I move, I know I will have to buy a whole set of new clothes. My drawers are about bare now with clothes that are too big for me. *le sigh*

3. I’ve started to go on Tumblr again. I go on there primarily for the pictures to be honest. I have phases where I go on for a long period of time and spend quite a bit of time on there a day, but then there are those periods where I don’t go on it for months.. even years. Anyone else do that with a social media website? Here’s mine.

4. One of my goals for this month is to go out more with friends and family. So far, I have plans for this weekend to hang out with friends. I’m pretty excited about that. 🙂

5. With school, I found out that I will be neck deep in work until May 9th. After that? Smooth sailing and easy work for me. I don’t think you can sense my excitement from just reading this. Trust me, it’s beyond what you can imagine. Only about 5 weeks left of stress and then I’m freeeeee!

6. With this warmer weather, I have been itching to go hiking up at the mountains. Ashley, I’ve been seeing your pictures for you run. Please take me there one weekend and we can go hiking together. Yes? Yes. 😀

7. I have been having a lot of cravings lately.. Let me just list a few: Chocolate (specifically Reeses), In-N-Out, sushi, froyo, etc. You get the point.

8. One quote that has been sticking with me and that I have been following lately is: “Always find light within the darkness.

9. I really want to go backpacking throughout Europe. I have actually been thinking about that a lot lately. I think it would be amazing to go throughout Europe with a partner and just explore new places. Imagine all of the sights, pictures, food, culture, and memories that are there.

10. I really hope you’re having an amazing start to the month of April, an amazing week, and an amazing day. ❤

-What are your goals for the month of April?

-What have you been craving lately?

-Where have you traveled to? Where do you want to travel to?

Thinking Out Loud #8 – NEDA & My Experience

As you may already know, this week is National Eating Disorder Awareness (NEDA) week. I hold this week VERY true and dear to my heart. If you weren’t aware, I suffered from not just one, but multiple eating disorders. Wow.. were those words hard to type. My disorders ranged from binging, to bulimia, to annorexia, to a body image disorder. I am actually in recovery as of right now.

Thank you, Amanda. ❤

1. I’ve only heard NEDA mentioned within the blog world, not out in the real world. I would inform my classmates if they knew what this week was and if they even knew what NEDA stood for. Did I get a big fat no. The number of eating disorder increases every year, and campaigns have been made, but why is this week not mentioned on the news? Eating disorders are deadly and people need to be aware of how rapid and widespread they are. I have been LOVING reading about other bloggers thoughts on this topic, because I feel like they get me and understand.

2. Like I mentioned earlier, I am in recovery. Yes, I still have food fears. Yes, I mentally count calories in my head. Yes, I get uneasy about schedules, what’s being cooked, and how it is cooked. I shy away from going back for more food or honoring all of my cravings. I admit to all of that. BUT, I am getting better with my food. Seriously, this past year I am finally eating more.

3. I guess you’re wondering why I developed so many disorders? Well, it all started in eighth grade. Man, were those the carefree years before hand.. It wasn’t until eighth grade when the messages of the media smacked me in the face. I realized I was over wight beforehand, but did I care about my body image? No. Did I actually enjoy food? Yes. Eighth grade was the time when I started paying attention to what people were saying. I started noticing how being skinny was the definition of beauty. Slowly I started covering up my body by wearing jackets and jeans every day (even in the sweltering heat of good ol’ AZ). It then led to eating less and less every day. Eventually, I wasn’t eating at all. I was always fatigued. My hunger was virtually gone. I lost 100+ pounds, my hair was falling out, my nails were brittle, I stopped getting my period. Ultimately, I slipped into a depression.

4. In my free time, I used to spend hours upon hours on tumblr scrolling through posts of skinny girls and how happy they looked. I thought that starving myself would make me happy (DAFUQ.) I obsessed over thee “diet rules” of going low carb, no fat, not eating past this time, eat every 2-3 hours, yadda yadda yadda. I wrote them down and had reminders everywhere.

5. You know what the really scary part of it was? My friends or family didn’t really notice until I had gotten down to 98 pounds at a 5’4 height. For years they didn’t seem to notice. All they thought was that my endless working out was paying off. I burned every single calorie I may have consumed. My friends thought the same. It wasn’t until when people hugged me that they felt the pressure from my bones and how it would leave me grasping for air.

6. Recovery is a choice. Recovery is a choice I made. Honestly, you can’t force something/someone to change, because by nature, it/they will resist. I saw how much it effected my friends, family, school, health, and relationships. Granted it took me quite some time, but I am grateful that I finally recognized what I was doing to myself.

7. One thing I have to stress about recovery is that it is a journey, but you are STRONG enough to conquer the inner thoughts and monsters. There are times where the thoughts are over powering, but you are a WARRIOR, you are FIERCE, you are STRONGER than they ever will be. Ups and downs along the way are bound to happen, but they do not define you. They are learning experiences.

8. I am ALWAYS here for you. I promise. Tweet me, e-mail me, comment below, heck- ask for my number and you can call or text me!

9. I love food. 😀

10. I hope you are having an amazing day. ❤

Morning Ramblings

Good morning and happy Monday! It’s currently 7:46 am and I am up on a day off from school. Oh how my internal clock loves waking me up early. I thought I would try out something new and have a talk over a bowl of oatmeal and a big cup of coffee. 🙂

-This weekend, I went out of my comfort zone and met new people. I am a true introvert at heart, so going out to meet new people was something new for me. Although I am pretty much the “shy girl” at school, I didn’t really have a problem sparking a conversation with the people I met. *Personal victory.* This year I plan on branching out and going out more. I need to experience life more. I mean come on, you do only live once. 😉

*Gah, my coffee slightly burned my tongue.* o.o

-I’ve been on Twitter more and more lately. You should follow me and tweet me so we can become friends. Yes? Yes.

-My new addiction over the weekend was binge watching The Carrie Diaries on Netflix for all of Sunday. Yes, I did finish all 13 episodes in one day. That pretty much sums up how addicted I can become to things. I remember when Christine got me into The Following. If you haven’t seen it, go watch it. It’s so good!

-The weather in Arizona has been absolutely perfect lately. Seriously, not too hot and not too cold. Enough sunshine with a cool breeze to enjoy. I have been one with nature and just sitting outside to enjoy some fresh air. I’m tempted to go outside after breakfast and take a nice, long walk.

-I really want to take a road trip to California or Nevada or Texas. Seriously. Who wants in? 😀

*Oh my gosh.. this oatmeal is so good.*

-I don’t think I can go a day without having oatmeal for breakfast. Seriously.. If I am craving waffles, pancakes, or french toast, I choose to have it for lunch. Would this be considered an addiction..? Let’s hope not.

-I really want to run. Like I have been craving a good run lately. You bet your booty I’ll be lacing up my running shoes and go on a long run once I get the okay from physical therapy.

-Speaking of physical therapy, I had this delicious chewy chocolate cookie with m&m’s. Made my mouth water. Why do I mention that? Well, I have been eating intuitive lately and finally coming to good terms with food. I never thought I’d be this happy before to not be stressing over numbers. 😀

*Aww, my coffee is gone.. At least I still have some oatmeal left.*

-Am I the only one that picks out all of the toppings of my oatmeal first before actually eating the oatmeal? Probably..

-I have been loving drinking almond milk straight up. It’s so good!

*Opp there goes my oatmeal..*

I’m glad we had this little marvelous random chit chat over a bowl of oatmeal and coffee. Let’s do it again some time? 😀

-What are your morning thoughts?

-What do you like watching on Netflix?

-What have you accomplished lately?

-What are you blessed/grateful for?
