February Ipsy & BoxyCharm Review

Good morning/afternoon/evening! ‚̧

Over the course of the past few months, my love for beauty products have grown exponentially. For years I have watched probably over 1000 make-up tutorials, and my biggest inspiration has always been Michelle Phan. Seeing her grown as both a YouTuber and business women, it has given me that boost to finally venture on beyond mascara and eye liner to a full range of beauty products. I love expressing myself with different looks with different color pallets every day! Beauty products are something I invest in, because it is a major thing that makes me happy.

A few months ago, I learned that I could get boxes each month with beauty products to try out, and eventually buy if I like them that much! I get monthly boxes from Ipsy and BoxyCharm. For Ipsy, it costs $10/month for 4-5 travel/sample size products that match you answers on a survey that you take upon joining as a member. These products can be up to over $50. As for BoxyCharm, you receive 5-6 full size products for $21/month. They are not based on a survey, but the total of all of the products are up to over $100 in value.

I have tested out all of these products, and I want to share my experience and opinion of all them with you!

  1. Jessica Liebeskind Vintage lip gloss
    1. The color is beautiful on this product. Although I was not a big fan of the brush to apply the lip gloss, it did give me a sheen that could not be outmatched. It in a color I would put over a pink lipstick, because it does look a bit tacky on plain lips.IMG_20160218_141712
  2. Margaret Dabbs London nail filer
    1. I didn’t understand what the product was at first until I looked it up. I found that there are fine crystals that make up the file for a clean cut file. The file did not apply much force, and it did its job. I was very happy with the end result. My nails turned out smooth and had no sharp edges.IMG_20160218_141729
  3. Trust Fund Beauty nail polish in “I’m Kind of a Big Deal”
    1. When it comes to nail polish, I have a hard time finding a polish that that covers the area with thick coats. This nail polish came out thick, but not in a bad way. It provided a full covered, and there were no streak marks when applying an over coat. Plus, the color is super cute! ūüėÄIMG_20160218_141856
  4. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil
    1. I’m still iffy about this product. Although it acts as a good primer, it leaves my hands feeling oily for a few washes. I like to stick to a lotiony primer, because it feels like it applies more coverage. The oil is lightweight, and it does a good job, but I can’t really get past the oiliness.
  5. Naked Cosmetics Mica Pigment
    1. I typically stick to tightly compacted pallet eye shadows, because they lack fallout, but this pigment was beautiful when blended with other eye shadows. As you could guess, this eye shadow is very pigmented. I thought it would be a but much with my fair skin, but it complimented both my blue eyes and red hair. There is a shimmer to it, and the sunlight really captures that. I would highly recommend it!

  1. Spongelle You Have My Heart on a String
    1. This body brush is great at exfoliating the skin! My skin felt a whole lot softer after using it the first time. The downside to it is the smell when it gets wet. It has a similar smell to Nair, and that smell makes me sick. I can get past that, because it is a great exfoliater, and my conditioner can out-smell it any day! ūüėČIMG_20160218_075355
  2. Beauty for Real Blush – Glow Stick
    1. My skin is very fair, so both the blush and illuminator showed up very clearly on my cheeks. The blush gave my cheeks a subtle natural rosy look (which I adore), and the illuminator (paired with my BH Cosmestics Carli Bybel highlighter) gave my face a dewy finish. I am all about that glow! ūüėÄIMG_20160218_142412
  3. Shray Ms. Amazing Facial Mask
    1. The mask was very cold upon putting it on my face, and when I rubbed it in. It was a but painful at first (I’m a baby with the cold), but it started to feel very soothing once I let it settle. After taking off the mask, it left behind a thicker moisture to rub in. I noticed that my face felt softer and cleaner than usual in the morning!IMG_20160218_142241
  4. Ofra Banana Powder Gadget
    1. I used this powder as a powder foundation instead of an eye shadow. It complimented my foundation and helped oxidize to a more natural shade. The powder actually helped tone down the redness in my face, and there was no oiliness or smearing at the end of the day.IMG_20160218_142259
  5. Freeze 24/7 Anti-Aging Eye Serum
    1. I’ve only used the serum for the past few days, and I haven’t noticed that much of a difference. My bags haven’t been so badly lately, so I hope that it is helping with that. I don’t have any wrinkles or crows feet from using make-up, but I hope that this serum will help to keep it that way!IMG_20160218_141319
  6. RealTree for Her
    1. I don’t wear perfume that often, but I do enjoy putting it on before school! It has a sweetier more flowery smell. It is a more intense smell after two sprits, but it is lovely. I would recommend it to perfume enthusiests. ūüôā

Overall, I was impressed with all of the products. They had their pros and cons, but I cannot wait to see what I receive next month to review!

We’ve Got the Power in our Hands

Facebook. Twitter. Pinterest. Instagram. Tumblr. Youtube.

Those are some of the names of the largest social media websites on the internet. There are millions of people that long on or go to these websites every single day. They hold the attention of both past and present generations. People are on their iPhones, iPads, iPods, Androids, tablets, etc. constantly liking, commenting, and sharing content. It’s pretty hard to go outside into the public and not see someone on their phone.

These websites hold influence to many actions and opinions, especially to the newest generation today. Pretty much every time I go out and about, I see an electronic in a child’s hand. I’ve heard, and seen, children talking about their profiles. They use derogatory terms like “thots” and other profanity, making judgments about themselves (like saying that they’re “soooo fat”), and especially judgments of other people for being different or not keeping up with what’s “cool.”

In my opinion, social media is a VERY powerful thing. It’s where people connect, learn new things or learn about what’s going on in the world, and open up their horizons to new ideas. BUT it also has the power of persuasion. Companies send out messages on what beauty “truly” is or what people need to do/buy to be accepted or “cool.” They have the power, on social media, to distort images of what people “need” just so they can get a quick buck.

I admit, I am constantly checking social media, and all throughout my scrolling, I’ve seen negativity on each of the websites listed above in some shape or form. People degrading other people for being different or not reaching their standards. As much as some people don’t want to believe it, words are a powerful thing. Beauty has been distorted by words and images. (You know what they say, “a picture is worth a thousand words”). What’s essentially “cool” has been altered by words over the years. What’s “wrong” has been distorted by words. Hate has been promoted. Envy has been promoted. Unrealistic expectations have been promoted.

In this situation, I don’t believe the phrase, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me,” holds true here. I’ve fallen victim to, along with other people, judgment, envy, and hatred.

Social media has so much power, and in all honesty, it scares me. It’s worries me for the generation now and for future generations to come. Technology is everywhere and it is constantly expanding every day. Its intention was for good, but there has been so much negativity that has grown over the years on it. Yes, I agree whole heartedly that people have the right to speak their minds. I respect that people have their own views, but I think that people should spread more positvity rather than negativity.

Thinking Out Loud ; 4/10

Hey there lovelies! I can’t think of an intro for the life of me, so I will just go straight into the thoughts.

Thank you to the beautiful Amanda for hosting. ‚̧

1. I am BEYOND excited for tomorrow. I have been looking forward to tomorrow all flippin’ week. Even since last Friday. The reason behind all of this excitement is that my friend is coming to visit me from Texas! He is stationed in Texas, so we only get to talk to each other through Skype. He’s staying in Arizona until Monday, and we’re going to spend the entire weekend. We’ve been friends for such a long time. For about 2 years now. We met before he was deployed to Afghanistan. I wrote to him while he was there. We didn’t talk for quite some time, but then one day, he texted me and told me he was back. I don’t think you could even imagine my excitement! I don’t really know what we’re going to do this weekend, but he is going to pick me up from school and we will probably go get some dinner, go see a movie, and then figure it out from there. Ahh, so so so giddy. ^_^

2. I am the girl who HATES cutting her hair. Seriously, I will go months and months and months without cutting my hair.. I will seriously look so upset once the scissors reach my head. It was nerve-wrecking to see the locks fall to the floor. I’m really diggin’ my haircut though. I can’t remember the last time I had my hair at shoulder length, but I actually really enjoy it. The weather is getting warmer, so it is nice to not have the long locks there. I do miss them, but my hair will grow back healthier. ūüôā

3. I cannot stop listening to this song. Ever since I was a little girl, I fell in love with the Spice Girls. Trust me, I still know the lyrics to all their songs, I have their movie on VHS, I constantly watched their music videos. I was always told I would be Baby Spice. I can see why. ūüėÄ

4. I am still having cravings up the wazoo. Seriously, this is getting ridiculous. I always get them at night. Does this happen with anyone else? Please tell me that I’m not alone..

5. I have also been loving these videos. I heard it in art one day while working on my mask. I feel in love after the first time. I was mesmerized by the instruments. I wish I knew how to play an instrument.

6. I really want to see the movie Neighbors. I find all of Seth Rogen’s movies hilarious! I may or may not of gotten all giddy when I saw that Zac Efron was in it. What can I see? He stole my heart ever since High School Musical. C’mon now.. you can’t deny those eyes… and that body.

7. I get to go to the mountains at night again this weekend! I have been really wanting to ever since I left them that night. It is just so peaceful and breath taking. I think that is going to be my new “clear my head” spot. I forget all my worries when I’m up there just looking out. I am hoping to spend a lot of time there over the summer. Late summer nights there? I think so.

8. Lately, I have been waking up at 4:30 a.m. I have no clue why. My body just naturally does. I take advantage of that time though, so I can make the rest of my day easy going. I always feel so productive when I finish a lot of tasks in the morning. Kinda badass or invincible. YaknowwhatImean? Yeah, you do.

9. I GET TO GO TO THE ZOO THIS WEEKEND AS WELL. In case you didn’t get the hint from my capslock, I am pretty flippin’ excited. You don’t even know how much I love going to look at the animals and taking pictures of them. I always get excited on the way there. It has been getting into the 90’s here already, so I will have to be bathing myself in sunblock, or I’ll end up looking like I belong with the lobsters. I kid you not, I don’t tan.. I burn.

10. If you are giving an opportunity, take advantage of it.

I hope you have an AMAZING day. ‚̧

-What do you like to do when your friends visit?

-Do you like cutting your hair? How do you style it?

-Do you like the zoo? What’s your favorite animal?

What Makes You Happy?

Hey there! It’s finally Thursday! ūüėÄ This week has been inching along slowly. I think it’s the effect of transitioning from break back to school. Oh how I am counting the days until Summer. 42 to be exact. I guess you can say I’m excited. Today, I am linking up with my fellow Carb Queen, Amanda, to share what’s been going on in this girl’s mind.

1. I want to start off by thanking you guys for your sweet comments on yesterday’s post. I just don’t know what it is, but I have just been looking big. I look in the mirror and just sigh. I think my mind is acting like this is because of the recent put on of stress. School started up again and so did the work load. I know these thoughts are just playing tricks on my mind, but it just gets to me sometimes. Ya know? Instead of dwelling on it, I do take action. Instead of focusing on le “problem areas,” I shift my focus towards what makes me happy. Smiling actual does put me in a better mood. Also, Happy never seems to fail to make me smile. I mean come on, who wouldn’t be happy while listening to it? ūüėČ

2. I have heard the song #Selfie one time too many. I hear it EVERYWHERE; on the radio, on the tv, at school, in the store. It’s everywhere! It’s like the new version of Call Me Maybe. Amiright? On the upside of this, I love the beat that goes along with it. Another up? It will be a great resource to look back on to the study the culture of 2014.

3. The weather has been so bipolar in Arizona lately. The mornings are cold, the afternoons are a heat wave, the evenings are a tones down heat wave. I kid you not, I have the most epic tan lines from my shirts, shorts, and shoes. Hello tan on the outside, yet pale as a ghost on the inside. -____-  We did have a rare occasion of a marvelous windy day. It weather was perfection. Fingers crossed that happens again soon!

4. In art class, we are now making masks. The word excited cannot even sum up to my joy. If you didn’t know already, I have a really big creative side to me. I love to draw, paint, sculpt.. you name it! I have this really feminine Mardi Gras theme going on. I was originally going to do a Day of the Dead mask, but I decided to shift to a more creative route. I’ve finished up the sketching and forming the mold of the mask. Now, I have to cute out the extensions and plaster, connect them, and then paint. I can’t wait to see how it comes out!

5. I don’t know if I have mentioned this before, but I have recently been doing yoga at home. I have been going on Youtube and finding different videos to try out. I’m surprised on how flexible I actually am. I didn’t realize how difficult some of the moves were though.. A lot of wobbling, a lot off off key breaths, a lot of “How the heck am I going to do that?!” kinda talk. You get the picture. I love how it challenges my body and how relaxed and happy I feel afterwards. It really does bring me to a state of peacefulness. After the move, I am hoping to join in on some group classes. I would love that! I really want to try hot yoga like I’ve been hearing about from Heather.

6. On Tuesday night, I had a breakdown. I had a breakdown for so many reasons.. stress, moving, college, my health, the bad news, feeling lost, just everything. It was then and there that I had about a 30 minute talk with God. I was so lost and I actually felt like something was weighing down my heart. I let everything out. In the best words I can, I have the describe the feeling as feeling free. I felt like the chains on my heart were unlocked and I could breathe properly again. I felt as if he was there with me letting me know that everything is alright and that there is a plan for me. I am so caught up in all of the stresses that I just need to work on myself more dominatly. I always push on the stresses first and forget to really think about myself. That needs to change, PRONTO.

7. I decided that I am going to get a tattoo of a Bible scripture. I am going to look more into it. I want it to be the perfect one. I also want one that symbolizes my strength through all I have been through and overcome. They are meaningful to me, so I know that they will be worth it.

8. This week at school, they have been really focusing on issues in the world that needs more attention; eating disorders, abuse, cancer, etc. Tomorrow, they are having a lighting ceremony with candles and lanterns in recognition of the ones who have faced it. I was surprised to hear that a few of my friends actually wrote my name down for some candles. I have faced two of the issues above. I faced both the eating disorder and self-abuse. I won’t go into detail about that, but it both gave me a feeling of anxiety yet appreciation for that. I can’t wait to go to the event.

9. I really want to know, what makes you happy? I really want to get to know the people that read my blog. I appreciate all of you that do. I really do. I want to talk with you, get to know you, and become good friends.

10. I hope you have an amazing day. You deserve it. ‚̧
